TIPS-Y Friday; Blend Blend Blend...

Nothing looks worse than foundation that stops at the chin or neck, or eye shadow that shows clear lines between different shades, Unless that's the look you're going for =\....Use brushes or beauty blender sponge to blend any lines until they disappear and you have a smooth, flawless appearance. If your foundation is "slightly" lighter than your skin tone, warm it up with a bronzer.

Here are some "What NOT to do" for your viewing pleasures =) and YES, even celebrities have their moments too lol....
Foundation is obviously on a cooler tone when she should be opting for a warmer tone and match the rest of her body, specially on a backless dress where it will show obvious mismatched tones.
This can work for some....errr maybe halloween look?!?!?
You would think she would know better being a supermodel and all....
Again, Blend.. Blend.. Blend..
Sooooo I hesitated to add this because I love her, but I had to be fair....yes blend those blush, highlight and contour powders just as well as you would your shadow and foundation for a seamless finish.

Have you ever had any bloopers or what not to do tips to add? Share them below =)

TIPS-Y Friday; Contouring and Highlighting....

Accentuate and/or downplay your best features with contouring and highlighting...
Contouring your nose and cheeks can turn a flat foundation into a three dimensional face.
Apply contour/highlight makeup to change the way it appears. Embrace those cheekbones and pop some highlights on top to make them even more amazing!!

Following with a more detailed post about contouring and highlighting next week so stay tuned =)

TIPS-Y Friday; Oily Skin Fix

Glowing, dewy skin is definitely one of the most coveted feature by many....until it becomes greasy looking and if you have an oily or combination (like my self) it becomes a total mess but there's a few mattifying creams and primer to help keep that greasy look at bay....
Before applying foundation, start with a light, moisturizing mattifying lotion to absorb the excess oil from your skin and keep you matte. Excess oil breaks down your foundation so it is important to choose a moisturizer and/or primer that will help keep you matte.
**Also, when applying foundation it is best to use a sponge or the beauty blender to press in the foundation on to your skin and when setting, press and roll the powder with a powder puff instead of dusting with a brush.

A few of my "go-to" products...
In the summer I have used these products and they have helped tremendously :)

Mattifying Primers are definitely essential to my makeup routine and here are a few of the many in my collection that I've found to work.

Do you have any oily skin mattifying tips of your own?

TIPS-Y Friday; No Makeup Day

Once a week or every other week, Give your skin a break and don't wear makeup for a full day to give your skin a chance to breathe and recover from all the makeup you have piled on your skin.
Instead, Do your skin a huge favor and declare a "Skin Pampering Day" with an extensive skin care regimen once or twice a week to incorporate with your beauty regimen. (extensive and updated skin care routine will be up next week).
Make sure that you moisturize to eliminate the beginnings of fine lines and wrinkles.

Have a great weekend :) Stay Beauty-Full!!

TIPS-Y Friday; Lipstick + Concealer= Perfect Orange Corrector

So this one time at an on-location gig...pause...(go ahead have your American Pie moment lol) Ok, are you back?!? lol... Anyhow, I had cleaned out my kit the night before heading out to my morning gig and I had forgotten my corrector palette, and thought eh no big deal, I just hope none of the clients suffer from bad under eye circles or at least very minimal....ummmm of course that would be theeee most perfect scenario right?!?!? So turned out I have 2 girls with really dark under eye circles, one fairly light olive skin and the other darker, yellow undertone olive skin. I've always been more of a corrector fan than concealer as it usually comes out ashy on darker skin. Soooo if you are ever faced with this same predicament, here's a lil trick that I found to work really really well and have saved me more than once and of course that one particular day =)

Have you tried this trick before? How did it work for you?

TIPS-Y Friday; Jalapeno Hair Serum (DIY)

So this is suppose to be an old wive's tales from Mexico, and when you think of the properties of jalapeno, it just makes sense. And who doesn't want to grow and thicken their mane? I mean I know I definitely do :) if you wanna indulge in this DIY' here's what you will be needing...
What you need
1 jalapeño, sliced thinly
1/4 cup tequilla

What to do
Steep the jalapeños in the tequila overnight. Wearing gloves, saturate cotton balls with the tonic to apply it to a dry scalp before bed. Let sit overnight. In the morning, shampoo and style as usual. Repeat nightly.

Logic behind this DIY
Just as spicy food flushes your face, jalapeños, when applied topically, help to increase circulation to the skin’s surface, encouraging new hair growth – and that’s the secret to this DIY beauty recipe! Combined with tequila, it cleanses and tone your scalp, which ensures your the pores on your scalp are primed for hair growth. Be extremely careful not to let the mixture seep down your face or in your eyes....
If all else fails, add a margarita mix and enjoy a refreshing jalapeno margarita :) SALUD!!

Would you give this serum a "shot"? ;)

TIPS-Y Friday; Avoid those pesky nail polish bubbles...

So with all these Nail Trends for Autumn to try, It's super annoying when you think you have laid your polish perfectly only to look down a few minutes later and then there's bubbles wtf$$*@&%^$?!?!?! Ok wooooohhhhh sahhhhh, I myself would prefer my bubbles in a champagne glass....relax and remove the polish, cleanse with alcohol and let the bare nails dry completely and then try some of these tips to avoid those pesky polish bubbles.

  •  Do not shake your polish bottle. Instead, try rolling it between your palms. Shaking the bottle creates little bubbles in which you then paint onto your nails.
  •  Do your nails in a cool, dry place. Preferably, Do your nails in a cool, ventilated place or try using a small fan to dry/cool your nails right after every layer is applied. Try running your hands in cold water and then drying them before you start painting if it’s hot out.
  • Let the first coat dry completely. Self explanatory... Other option to try if you are pressed for time, use a "quick-dry" formula.
  • Avoid thick polish. Apply a thin layer and allow it to dry completely before adding another layer. New bottle of polish usually has a thinner consistency than the one sitting on your desk for the past 3 years. FYI, adding nail polish remover to thin out your  nail polish only weakens the bond between the polish and your nails which causes it to chip easier.
  • Lift the brush as little as possible. Try doing long strokes instead of short quick strokes with the brush. Short strokes only allows more air to get in between the polish layers.
  •  Use a base coat. Laying a proper foundation for your polish is a must when trying to avoid bubbles.
  •  Avoid lotion. Using lotion leaves residue on nails which then creates bubbles. Again, wipe nails with alcohol or nail polish remover to clean up residue on nails.

What have you tried that worked in deflating those bubbles??

TIPS-y Friday; Summer-Autumn Hair Transition

So every Summer, I have the propensity to ummm abuse my hair with all that fun in the sun and then attempt to fix it by Autumn...."Attempt" being the operative word...and needless to say, it has proved to be futile.

Even with oil treatment, deep conditioning, and hair masks...it truly isn't enough, It does help.....but.... The damages to your locks from the pool water, salt water, heat styling and hair ties from having it up all summer long and chemical treatments, are already there. Split ends are going to split further, giving you that dry, brassy, bird's nest look. Unless that's the look you are going for, here's my recommendation :)
Visit your favorite hair stylist after Labor Day and get a haircut/trim and a color glaze to clean up damaged ends and brighten up your washed out color. Furthermore, it gives you a fresh new style to rock with this Fall's fresh new looks ;) After your hair cut, treat your hair with a deep conditioning  treatment twice a week to keep your hair healthy and shiny.

So who's cutting/trimming their hair with me?

TIPS-Y Friday; Tips on how to figure out your undertone

Here are a couple of tips to help you figure out your undertone if you don't know it yet :)

Have you ever worn a piece of gold or silver jewelry and thought you looked better wearing one or the other? well, if the gold looked better on you than the silver you are considered warm undertones and if silver, you are considered cool undertones, looked good on both? luckyyyy (insert nephews voice here lol) you have neutral undertones and can go either way.
This also works just as well when wearing gold shadows or silver shadows

Another way to check is if you burn or tan without sunscreen. People with warm undertones usually tan easily when they don't use sunscreen and people with cool undertones usually burn and hard to tan.

The following photos are applied messily with maybelline's color tattoo cream shadows, on bare skin and carried it all the way down on my undereye so I can see the actual effect of the color on my skin. I am Neutral. I have a yellow undertone and I usually tan when I don't use SPF but I literally have to sit under the sun for 4-5 hours to notice a shade on my skin and I can pull off both silver and gold but favor more silver hues than golds.

Are you warm, cool or neutral?

TIPS-y Friday: Quick sanitation and brush clean up

So I'm sure you have heard about or read about the girl who contracted herpes from using a mac lipstick tester at a MAC store...ummm scary and that is why I NEVER apply testers on my lips, eyes or even my face...yeah swatching them on my arms really isn't any better either but as long as there's no cuts or lesions on my arms (which you should not be applying products to begin with..) I should be ok, I hope lol..

Anyhow, I mentioned that to say you should ALWAYS sanitize your products and brushes to avoid any infection specially if you share products with your friends/sisters ect... It's a known fact that cosmetics and dirty brushes are the breeding ground for bacteria so here are compiled quick tips to keep those growth at bay.

One thing you should always have in your vanity is a spray bottle of 99% alcohol, I get mines at Sally's  or order them online at a pro store but it takes forever for shipping as it has to travel ground so I just make that drive to Sally's... You can also get the 91% at your local drugstore, I think that's the highest they sell. I like the 99% because if I am in between clients, I need my brushes to dry and quick. Just spray on the brushes swirl it on a dry towel or papertowel, repeat until your brushes are clean and you're good to go.

Sanitize your eye and lip liners- Use a sharpener to remove top layer of the liner before or after usage to keep bacteria at bay.

Face powder products and eye shadows- After usage, a quick spray of 99% alcohol and leave it open for a few minute for the alcohol to evaporate then close and store.

Mascara- You should never share mascaras with anyone but if you do, I suggest using disposable wands and do not double dip. If you must use multiple coatings, Dip wand multiple times to get enough product and blot it on the back of your hand or palette and use that to grab second or third coatings.

Foundations- This applies more to the cream foundation palettes as most liquid foundation are usually packaged ergonomically to release product easily without contaminating specially if you are using a sponge. For cream foundation in a pan, use a spatula to take product out and place them on the back of your hand or palette to avoid contamination of product, you can also spray 99% alcohol on a clean sponge and swipe it on the pan to sanitize product.

Moisturizing Cream- This also applies to creams that comes in a wide mouth jar that requires you to scoop the product out, well I would definitely suggest using a spatula to scoop the product so that you don't contaminate the rest of the product.

That's all I can think of right now and if you have any tips that you wanna share please comment below or email with any queries, don't forget to socialize with me on twitter, instagram and facebook ......sharing is beauty-ful

Have an awesome weekend :) -PF

TIPS-y Friday: Beauty & Skincare

TGIF!!! Here's this week's Beauty Tips-y Friday :-)

Keep your eyes open when applying eye-liner to avoid crooked line.
Apply three strokes: Firm lines to the outer corner of the eye, the middle and then the inner corner. Connect the three lines with few short strokes then one layer to blend as one fluid stroke.

Feel free to share this tip or submit any eye makeup tips.
